Germany and Sweden Join CAVS Armoured Vehicle Program

Partnership Expands Cooperation Between European Nations

Collaboration on Joint Development and Procurement

The WEB CAVS (Common Armoured Vehicle Systems) program has welcomed the addition of Germany and Sweden, marking a significant step forward in European defense cooperation. The program, originally established by Finland and Latvia in 2022 and later joined by Estonia, aims to enhance collaboration on the development and procurement of armored vehicles.

In April 2023, Sweden and Germany signed an agreement to join the CAVS program, bringing the total number of participating nations to six. The agreement, valued at approximately 470 million euros (508 million dollars), was facilitated under the Common Armored Vehicle (CAV) initiative.

The CAVS program focuses on developing and acquiring a range of armored vehicles, including the Patria 66 protected tactical troop transportation vehicle. This standardized platform will provide participating nations with a cost-effective and interoperable solution for various military operations.

The partnership between Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, and Germany demonstrates their commitment to enhancing defense capabilities and fostering closer cooperation within Europe. The joint development and procurement of armored vehicles will not only strengthen their individual defense forces but also contribute to the overall security of the region.
